Regional Editors

An invitation to our readers to join our team of volunteer regional editors:

When Green Teacher magazine began publishing in North America in 1991, we took steps to ensure participation from environmental and global educators across the continent. One of the first things we did was to establish a group of volunteer regional editors who help to promote the magazine and keep us informed of interesting happenings in their respective areas.

What does a regional editor do?

Briefly, there are three main tasks: 1) to ensure that educators who are doing exciting work in environmental or global education in your area are being encouraged to write for the magazine; 2) to let local teachers know about Green Teacher’s quarterly magazine, books, webinars, and podcast; and 3) to write an occasional article or news story.

For the most part, then, it’s forwarding emails, posting to listservs/digital announcement boards, and sharing content through social media. Any content that we send you will be ready-made so that you can spread the word in just a few clicks! All in all, then, the time commitment is minimal.

How long must I commit myself?

We would like regional editors to stay with us for about 2–3 years, but we understand that all kinds of things can happen to make such a commitment difficult to fulfill. Our main interest is in having a group of active representatives, so if you become a regional editor and then later find you don’t have the time for it, we will completely understand.

Where do we need regional editors?

In Canada: Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Prince Edward Island, Québec

In the U.S.: Alaska, Alabama, Arkansas, D.C., Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Louisiana, Minnesota, Montana, North Dakota, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Nevada, Northern California, Ohio, Oregon, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, West Virginia, Wyoming

Overseas: Australia, Belize, Hong Kong, Ireland, New Zealand (North Island), South Africa, United Kingdom

How do I become a regional editor?

If you are interested and have the time to undertake this volunteer position, please let us know by contacting our offices. Let us know why you think you would be an effective regional editor and tell us about professional or other organizations in which you are an active member. For instance, you may have good contacts through active membership in your provincial or state environmental education association; or perhaps you give workshops for teachers in your area.

What can I do to help if I cannot become a regional editor?

Many Green Teacher readers encourage colleagues to write for the magazine, and put out display copies and flyers at conferences. Please contact us to obtain these materials.

It’s possible that we have already appointed a regional editor from your area. If so, we’ll keep your name on file in the event that an editor’s position in your region opens up at a later date. In any case, thank you for your consideration.
