Do You See What I See?

Originally appears in the Fall 2007 issue

Purpose: In this activity, students refine their definition of visual pollution through a student reading and a discussion of images.

Grade level: 6-8

Time: 50 minutes

Learning outcomes:

  1. Students will be able to define visual pollution and recognize elements in a community’s appearance that could be considered undesirable.
  1. Students will realize visual appearance affects a community’s image and health.

Materials: Blackboard or flipchart; collection of images of different communities (see Preparation below); copies of the student reading entitled “Do You See What I See?
