Bird-focused Citizen Science

Original date: March 27th, 2019

Presenter: Liza Barney

Birds can be found in our backyards, schoolyards, local parks and communities, offering an exciting and accessible connection to nature all year long. Participating in Citizen Science is a fun way to help students get to know their local birds, and contribute to real-world science. This webinar will introduce entry-level, student-friendly Citizen Science programs for all ages and experiences, including Project FeederWatch, Great Backyard Bird Count, Schoolyard Bird Blitz, Project NestWatch and the Christmas Bird Count for Kids.

Liza Barney coordinates the Bird Education program at Bird Studies Canada, facilitating Citizen Science and educational programs focused on bird science, monitoring and conservation across the country.  As a life-long lover and learner of the natural world, she combines a range of experience in both research and environmental education to bring meaningful learning opportunities and nature connections to students, youth and families.
