Real-time Teaching with VENUS and NEPTUNE

The advent of new technologies makes it easier to teach about ocean science. While the variety and learning curves in teaching such material might loom a little dauntingly, students in high school and college form a technologically savvy crowd. In many ways, technology is vital to their culture, and in the classroom it can be used as a gateway to a world they couldn’t access otherwise.

Here, I describe a project where we used new technology to explore an ocean observatory – a network of instruments set at special sites off the coast of British Columbia for marine scientists to observe the sea.
