19:34:27 From claretallonruen : will this be recorded? I have to walk somewhere during the meeting 19:35:37 From Ian Shanahan : Yes, indeed. We will post it on greenteacher.com tomorrow. 19:39:33 From Liz French : Liz from Georgia. I work as an environmental educator for my local school system. I am hoping to grow my program into a nature center eventually! 19:39:34 From Judy : Calgary Alberta 19:39:45 From mickeyjosorrell : North Carolina. Kids in the creek, star parties. 19:40:12 From Ian Shanahan : Ian, southern Ontario. (Green Teacher) 19:40:23 From Adrien Hilmy : I work in Corpus Christi TX for a conservation organization. We provide field experiences for students grades k-12 at our wildlife preserve. 19:40:24 From Carolyn : Hi Megan...I'm a 5th grade public school Science teacher, and even though this is my 18th year teaching, I'm still learning. I've been teaching Science exclusively for 3 years. 19:41:09 From Liza Barney : Liza Barney - New Brunswick, Canada Education Program Coordinator at Bird Studies Canada 19:41:13 From claretallonruen : I work as an outdoes educator across a district, pushing in on water education. I partner with local experts, bringing them in, bringing kids to sites lie beach/wastewater treatment plant/etc. I’m looking to make a “template” for what I do to bring it to two other nearby school districts and, “engaging partners” is something I’ve done here and am curious how do to it outside of my community 19:42:07 From Ian Shanahan : Thanks for these contributions so far, folks. We will follow up on these items during the Q-and-A. 19:42:44 From Ian Shanahan : NGSS 19:45:07 From Carolyn : My school adopted them 3 years ago. The NGSX training is the "full training," because it incorporates the cross-training concepts. The models used in the traing make the integration of the cross-cutting concepts seem a bit daunting, if you ask me. 20:09:11 From mickeyjosorrell : Those kids are so lucky to have you. 20:17:33 From Liza Barney : Thanks for sharing your experiences, Megan. This is such a great model- one challenge I see in schools is the constraints of the bell-ringing schedule - even if a teacher is keen to integrate these immersive experiences, they are tricky to fit into the typical block of time before kids move to another class. Any examples or suggestions on how a teacher can break through some of those structural barriers? 20:17:48 From Carolyn : I like your story, Megan, and that is what education was about 3 decades and more, ago. There wasn't all the testing in the US. 20:18:08 From Liz French : Do you work mostly with your science class, specific classes like AP, or clubs? 20:18:39 From Liz French : I mean clubs as afterschool programs 20:21:20 From Carolyn : EXACTLY! 20:23:19 From Liza Barney : is that a bird calling out your window? 20:24:00 From Carolyn : Evil Monsanto. 20:28:55 From Liz French : Thank you so much!! 20:29:05 From Ian Shanahan : https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/BH2W5H3 20:29:06 From Carolyn : Thank you both! Wonderful!
