Tips for Teaching about Bees and Other Native Pollinators

Presenter: Ian Shanahan

Originally aired: Wednesday, April 26th, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. ET / 4:00 p.m. PT

How can we teach about pollinators when we don’t know very much about them? What if we don’t have easy access to pollinator habitat at or near our learning setting? Why is it important to make connections between pollinator health and the growth of staple food crops? As part of last summer’s special issue of Green Teacher magazine on wild native bees, we published six educational activities — two for each of the Elementary, Middle, and Secondary age groups — and we’ll be taking you inside these interactive, place-based activities so that you leave this webinar better prepared to teach about bees and other pollinators in a meaningful way. There will be numerous opportunities for active participation and discussion, so come prepared with your pollinator-related questions!

This webinar is a follow-up to our Summer 2022 issue of Green Teacher magazine (# 132) about wild native bees, produced in collaboration with Friends of the Earth Canada. Learn more about The Bee Cause here.
